In our lesson on rounding whole numbers up or down, we learnt that in rounding off, up or down any number to any given place value, there are two sets of digits to consider.
\(* \ \{0, 1, 2, 3, 4\} \Rightarrow\) we called this set the set of small digits, and
\(* \ \{5, 6, 7, 8, 9\} \Rightarrow \) the set of big digits.
